Acommissioned portrait of a beloved pet is one of Lynn’s favorite jobs to tackle. For this, Lynn paints entirely with acrylics on canvas, using her technique of painting in layers in order to achieve her goal. She works from photographs – either from photos she has taken of the animal or from those provided by the client. The client has the option to choose the background. Backgrounds can be as simple as a favorite color, or as complex as a full scene (either indoors or outdoors). But the most important thing to Lynn is that she captures the essence of the animal’s personality.

It is not enough to have all the spots, stripes and whiskers in place – the animal must seem to come alive on the canvas. Lynn often interviews the client and asks questions about the animal so as to know her subject better. And Lynn guarantees her work. If you are not completely satisfied with the finished product, she will keep the painting and you pay nothing.

Below are three examples of Lynn’s pet portraits. The first is entitled “Sadie” and is an acrylic on canvas of a lovely two year old mixed breed dog . The second is entitled “Kelly and Ginny”, an acrylic on canvas with a background chosen by the client. In this painting, pansies were used as they are the client’s favorite flower. The third is entitled “Mr. Biscuit”, also an acrylic on canvas of the much beloved cat that roams the well-known Williamsburg restaurant Old Chickahomany House.
